Our journey

Founded in 2017, we are pioneering deep learning and AI for the next generation of autonomous driving.

Timeline

Our Journey

  • February 2017

    Inception

Wayve was born in Cambridge as a ‘contrarian’ start-up looking to pioneer a better way to build self-driving car technology using deep learning and AI advances. We received $2.5M in seed funding. Months later, we were the first team to use reinforcement learning to teach a car to lane follow with just 10 minutes of feedback.

  • July 2019

    Using deep learning to drive

Wayve is the first company to demonstrate an end-to-end learned driving system with complete vehicle control, powering a self-driving vehicle on UK public roads. We raised a $20M Series A and opened our HQ in London with a fleet of autonomous electric vehicles.

  • March 2021

    Partnering in last-mile delivery

Wayve announces its first commercial partnerships with Ocado Group and Asda, two of the UK’s largest grocery retailers, to trial AV technology on last-mile urban delivery routes in London. We launch our first fleet data collection pilot program with DPD, the UK’s leading parcel delivery firm.

  • February 2022

    Scaling deep learning for AVs

Wayve achieves another world’s first in AI for mobile robotics by developing a driving model that can generalise to different cities and different vehicle types. We also received $200M in funding, opened a second office in California and teamed up with Microsoft to scale deep learning for AVs.
